About
College :-
Indraprastha College, the oldest women's college in Delhi, began as
Indraprastha School in 1904 in a small building in the heart of the
city behind Jama Masjid. The school was founded by local Theosophists
in response to a call from Ms. Annie Besant. In 1924, when the University
of Delhi was established, the school started intermediate classes
which were affiliated to the university. In 1933, B.A. classes were
introduced and in 1938, the first batch of students appeared in M.A.
examinations. In 1938 the college moved into its present premises
which had once been the office-cum- residence of the Commander-in-Chief. |
Courses
Aveleble :-
B.C.A. The admission to the course is on the basis of entrance examination
followed by personal interview.(30).
B.M.M.M.C. (Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication)
Admission to the course is on the basis of written examination.
The course is planned in the emerging context for planning education-employment
linkage.(36)

Hostel
The splendid building of Indraprastha Hostel, constructed in 1952,
is named after the college's first Indian principal, Kalawati Gupta.
The hostel accommodates upto 200 students and is set amidst green
stretch of lawns. It has a spacious and comfortably furnished visitors
rooms and a girls' common room equipped with a table tennis and several
indoor games, as well as an audio-visual system.
The college offers some seats in the hostel to outstation new entrants.
The college admission does not automatically ensure hostel accommodation.
Library :-
Indraprastha Library is adequately equipped, to meet the essential
academic and cultural needs of the young inquisitive students. It
has a collection of 5350 bound journals, 20 sets of encyclopedias,
110 regular journals and magazines and 11 everyday newspapers. There
is a spacious general reading room, open stack system, a reference
section and a book bank which functions from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
everyday. Students are members of the library and are encouraged to
use the library to further their academic interest.
Garden :-
The 21-acre expanse of the I.P campus is laid out with expansive lawns.
These are dotted with numerous species of flora, providing a peaceful
heaven and refuge from the bustle of the city streets. The sylvan
surroundings created by its garden lends a distinctive character to
the college. The Nature Club of I.P college motivates students to
plant trees in and around the college campus. |
